Cowboy Capital gears up for Rodeo Heritage Week

STEPHENVILLE (September 11, 2015) — Rodeo Heritage Week in the Cowboy Capital of the World will kick off with an old fashioned parade and celebration on Saturday, September 19th in the Stephenville City Park. The parade will begin at 5:00 pm at the City Park, wind around downtown (route will leave park by Rec Hall, turn west on Long, north on Baxter by Central Elementary, east on Washington and south on Graham) and return to the City Park.

The parade will be followed by the Bruner Motors RAM Trucks Official Rodeo Heritage Week Kickoff Celebration at the City Park’s Birdsong Amphitheater from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Activities will include the McCoy’s Mutton Bustin’ competition, NRS Dummy Roping contest, stick horse races, pony rides, western booths, food vendors and more! Take a test drive in a new RAM truck, have your photo taken with our beautiful rodeo queens, and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride.

New to this year’s festivities will be a Cooking Contest for campfire cooks or Dutch oven experts! Are you known for your delicious cobbler or biscuits? Share your grub and win some cash! If there are at least 10 contestants in each category, the best cobbler will win $250 and best campfire bread will win $250. No entry fee required, but all cooks must pre-enter by September 16 by calling Travis Felts at (254)592-1653.

Parade entry forms are available at the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce or by calling Parade Chair Travis Felts at (254)592-1653 or emailing travis@cowgirlville.com. Parade participants who wish to have their entry judged must have entry form in by September 16. Parade entries will be judged in the following categories: Local commercial; local non-commercial; out-of-town non-commercial; horse and riders; horse drawn vehicles; riding clubs; decorated cars; antique cars; antique car clubs; antique tractors; motorcycles; bikes; pets; bands; and children in costumes.

The 46th Annual Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo presented by Twisted J will be held September 25-27 at Lone Star Arena. Friday and Saturday night performances will start at 7:00 pm with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at Capital Hatters, Chick Elms Grand Entry, Hay & Feed Ranch, Saddle Rags, Twisted J and Stephenville Chamber of Commerce.
