DENTON (September 22, 2015) – Tarleton claimed its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season Tuesday night as Hailey Roberts and the TexAnns defeated the Texas Woman’s Pioneers and the Tarleton record books.

Roberts, a sophomore from Cedar Park with an already impressive resume, continued her impressive career by breaking the school record for kills in a game with 37 against the Pioneers at Kitty Magee Arena. Not to be outdone, Chandler Gow set her own personal best on the night as well with a career-high 66 assists for her first 60-assist performance as a TexAnn.

After the Pioneers jumped out to a quick 7-5 lead in the opening set, Xzache Mathis landed a kill shot to start a 6-0 TexAnn run to turn the tide. All six points came from kill shots, including three from Mathis.

Things stayed tight through a 19-18 Tarleton advantage before a Roberts kill started a 5-2 TexAnn run down the stretch to claim the set 25-20. Texas Woman’s evened up the match with a 6-2 run down the stretch in set two to take a 25-21 win and even the match at 1-1 at intermission.

Out of the break, Tarleton maintained a slim lead throughout the third set and the set went to an even 24-24 with Roberts at the serve line, but a controversial call on the back-line gave Texas Woman’s a 25-24 lead.

Mathis took the advantage right back with two straight kills as Tarleton outscored the Pioneers 6-3 in extra points to take the third set 30-28.

Tarleton rallied in the fourth set as the Pioneers held a 17-15 lead, but a Roberts kill gave the serve back to the TexAnns at 17-16 and Chandler Gow served up seven straight points to put Tarleton up 23-17. Roberts’ new record put Tarleton at match point, and after an error, Mathis put the match away with kill No. 14 of the night.

Roberts landed her 37 kills with a .306 hitting percentage while adding 20 digs for her 27th career double-double and the 10th of this season. The sophomore also flirted with her first career triple double by adding six service aces.

Gow dropped in her career-high 66 assists as Tarleton hit .260 as a team, while Kelsey Raglin (17), Ayssa Garcia (15), and Adrianna Knutson (15) cracked double figures in digs.

Tarleton (9-3, 1-1) will return to Wisdom Gym for three home games this week, beginning with St. Mary’s in a non-conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
