Tarleton, Gee lead National Championship Preview in Colorado

AURORA, Colo. (September, 28, 2015) – Tarleton is leading the GolfScrimmages.com National Championship Preview tournament and Sarah Gee is tied for first on the individual leaderboard at CommonGround Golf Course hosted by Metro State after the first round.

The TexAnns shot a 289 (+1) on the Par 72, 6,310-yard course on Monday and sit two strokes ahead of West Florida 291 (+3) heading to the final round.

Sarah Gee carded a 3-under-par 69 and is tied with Courtney Zietsman from Newman for first place. Gee, looking for her first career win, recorded four birdies including back-to-back birdies on the ninth and 10th hole to move to 1-under-par. The sophomore from Warminster, England added two more birdies on No. 14, a par 3, and No. 15, a par 5. Gee’s 69 is the lowest round of her career, topping her previous best of 73.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea is in a three-way tie for sixth with a 1-under-par 71. The senior also birdied the ninth and 14th holes and had 15 pars on the day to lead all golfers. Jimenez-Perea’s 71 is the lowest round of the season.

Beatriz Prados is tied for 20th after carding a 74 (+2). The junior had 14 birdies on the day, tied for second most.

Casey Wild, the LSC Golfer of the Week after Tarleton’s first tournament, is tied for 28th after shooting a 75 (+3). Wild had three birdies on the round.

Kerbey Kipp sits in 41st and shot a 77 (+5) for her best round of the 2015 season. Kipp logged 10 pars and a birdie on 15.

Tarleton is second overall in pars with 62 on the day and added 11 birdies.

There are two other Lone Star Conference schools in the 20-team tournament with West Texas A&M in eighth (300, +12) and Midwestern State in 14th (314, +26).

The TexAnns will begin the final round of the 36-hole tournament morning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
