Tarleton to welcome thousands for Family Weekend, Texan Tour, FFA event

Tarleton State University will host Texan Tour on Saturday, Oct. 3, welcoming prospective students and their families for one of two campus preview days held annually.

STEPHENVILLE (September 29, 2015) — Tarleton State University will host thousands of visitors this weekend, Oct. 2-4, with the annual Family Weekend, a Texan Tour campus preview day and a National FFA Officer Candidate workshop scheduled.

To increase parking for visitors, the gates to all faculty and staff parking lots will open to for all vehicles at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and remain open throughout the weekend.

On Friday the Tarleton Alumni Association will host its annual Ring Ceremony when students receive their official class ring. The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. inside the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium and will include remarks by university President F. Dominic Dottavio and TAA President Mike Kornegay.

Parking for the TAA Ring Ceremony is available in Lot P15 near the Wells Fine Arts Center. Current construction limits access only from the intersection of West Vanderbilt Street and North Neblett Avenue near the Tarleton Smokestack, entering Lot P13 and driving through it to Lot P15 crossing Doc Blanchard Boulevard.

Guests arriving Saturday morning for Texan Tour will be aided in finding parking near Wisdom Gym by directional signage placed on the campus perimeter. Lots P16, P17, P30 and P39 are within close proximity to Wisdom Gym, and Lots P20 South and North also will be available for Texan Tour visitors. Overflow parking is provided south of Washington Street in Lot P34 North.

As part of Texan Tour on Saturday, Oct. 3, Tarleton will operate a free shuttle service from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., transporting visitors from Lot P34 North near the Horticulture Center and Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex with drop-off on Lillian Street at University Park and the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

Tarleton also will provide its shuttle and place two buses in service on Saturday from 4 p.m. until the end of the Texans’ football game against Texas A&M-Commerce. Shuttles will run from Lot P34 North to ferry passengers to Lot P20 West at Memorial Stadium near the main ticket booth.
