Stephenville girls race to 11th, boys 15th at cross country regional

Dublin's Cervantes places 18th in Region I-3A girls race

(October 26, 2015) — Stephenville placed 11th in the girls standings and 15th in the boys race at the Region I-4A Cross Country Championships at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock Monday.

The highest local finisher at the regional was Juana Cervantes, a sophomore from Dublin. Cervantes placed 18th with a time of 12 minutes, 53.75 seconds in the 3A Region I-3A girls race.

Leading the Honeybees was freshman Emily Kirbo in 34th with a time of 12:53.80. She was followed by senior twins Peyton and Shelby Wood in 76th and 77th. They crossed the finish line just five hundredths of a second apart in 13:49.46 and 13:49.51.

Anahi Rivas and Allissa Adams, both freshmen, concluded the scoring for Stephenville. They were 80th and 92nd in 13:51.44 and 14:01.33. Another freshman, Odalys Salazer, was 93rd in 14:02 as a displacing runner for the Bees. The other displacer was Kate Daugherty, a sophomore, who completed the course in 14:34.35 for 115th.

Leading the Yellow Jackets was Riley Forehand, the senior who also claimed his first race championship while pacing Stephenville to the 6-4A title last week. Forehand was 61st in Lubbock, finishing in 17:50.81.

Sophomore Gilberto Garcia took 70th in 17:48.06, followed by Christian Brown in 75th with a time of 17:54.97. The remaining point scorers were freshman Jose Hernandez, 90th in 18:19.89, and senior Pedro Mannriquez, 93rd in 18:26. Sophomore Miguell Carrillo, 119th in 19:08.9, and senior Evan Moody, 129th in 19:24.58, were the displacing runners.

Dublin qualified its boys team for the Region I-3A boys event and finished 21st. Freshman Mark Ybarra led the way in 52nd with a time of 18:11.22. Junior Daniel Rodriguez was 97th in 19:32.95, sophomore Brent Stephen 102nd in 19:43.46, freshman Juan Rodriguez 107th in 19:56.39, sophomore Adrian Flores 122nd in 20:37.91, freshman Jaxon Golden 123rd in 20:39 and sophomore Cole Gilliland 140th in 21:30.20.
