STEPHENVILLE – In the first regional volleyball rankings of the season, Tarleton is second in the South Central region – the highest ranking in program history.

The TexAnns are 22-5 overall and in first place in the Lone Star Conference with a 12-1 record. The previous high in the regional poll for Tarleton was sixth.

“I am very proud of my girls,” said head coach Mary Schindler. “They have worked hard this season and have earned it. I love my team.”

Angelo State, who the TexAnns split the season series with, is No. 1 in the regional poll. Also representing the LSC in the poll is Texas Woman’s in fifth, A&M-Kingsville in seventh and Cameron in ninth.

Metro State sits behind Tarleton in third, with Colorado Mines in sixth, Newman in eighth and Regis rounding out the rankings in 10th.

The top eight teams in the regional rankings at the end of conference tournament championship weekend will advance to the NCAA postseason. The conference tournament champions are guaranteed an automatic berth into the playoffs, which could affect the rankings if a non-regionally ranked team wins their respective tournament and earned the berth.

The South Central region is comprised of the Lone Star Conference, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the Heartland Conference. The regional tournament will be played at the home gym of the highest seed from Nov. 20-23.

Tarleton returns to Wisdom Gym after a five-game road trip to take on A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the final regular season home game of the season.
