THE EVENT
The Tarleton TexAnns will make their debut under the bright lights of Las Vegas Friday night when Tarleton competes in the 2015 South Point Holiday Hoops Classic.
THE BROADCAST
The game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the TexAnns, Keltin Wiens, will serve as the play-by-play this season. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. The pregame show will begin 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
LAST TIME OUT
Morgan Ashmore and Bailey Wipff combined for 35 points, including 21 in the second half, to lead Tarleton back from a nine-point, halftime deficit and a 64-59 win over Oklahoma Baptist at Wisdom Gym Monday night. For Ashmore, the 19-point scoring effort is the best of her four-year career and came on a 7-7 shooting performance from the floor, including 3-3 from downtown.
THE OPPONENT: STONEHILL COLLEGE
In her 15th season at the helm of Stonehill College, Harvard-graduate Trisha Brown has led the Skyhawks into national prominence. Stonehill has qualified for the NE-10 Tournament in all 14 seasons under Brown, as well as 10 NCAA playoff appearances. The Skyhawks are averaging 71.8 points per game, led by Paige Marshall (15.9) and Kelly Martin (15.8). Samantha Hyslip, the NE-10 Rookie of the Year last season, is also averaging double figures with 10.1 points per game.
THE OPPONENT: MONTANA STATE-BILLINGS
Led by the all-time winningest coach in school history Kevin Woodin, Montana State-Billings enters this weekend with a 5-3 record, including a 2-0 mark in GNAC play, and four straight wins. The 18.5 points per game by Alisha Breen lead the Yellow Jackets.
THE SERIES’
This is the first meeting for Tarleton against both Stonehill College and Montana State-Billings.
WILSON AGAINST FIRST-TIME FOES
This weekend marks the sixth and seventh times in Misty Wilson‘s short tenure as head coach that she has led Tarleton into a game against a brand new opponent. After Monday’s win over Oklahoma Baptist, she is now 4-1 over the last two seasons against opponents the TexAnns have never faced before.
APPROACHING MILESTONE MARKS
Tarleton has a pair of TexAnns looking to be two of the three highest-scoring TexAnns on the roster. With her next point, Raven McGrath (499) will become the first TexAnn on this season’s roster to reach 500 career points. Meanwhile, Meagan O’Dell (399) is also one point away from a milestone mark (400).
WILSON IN DECEMBER
Since Misty Wilson joined the program as a player in 1998, Tarleton is 56-30 in December games, including 4-2 as the head coach over the last two seasons.
IWOBI IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Ikpeaku Iwobi has made her way into the Tarleton record books for offensive rebounding. With eight boards off the offensive glass in her last two outings, Iwobi has tied Sarah Wagner (151) for 14th place on the all-time offensive rebounding list. Next on the list is Shea Kester (152) and Isha Brown (153) at the No. 13 and 12 spots in the category, respectively. (Note: The Tarleton records do not keep separated rebounding statistics prior to 1987).
