Tarleton’s Leslie Spotz presents free faculty recital Jan. 25

STEPHENVILLE (January 15, 2016) — Dr. Leslie Spotz, associate professor of piano at Tarleton State University, presents a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater.

The free recital, open to the public, features theWaldstein Piano Sonata by Beethoven, Volume I (Evocación, El Puerto, Fête-dieu à Seville) of the Suite for Piano by Albéniz, and will conclude with the beloved Scherzo in B flat minor by Chopin.

Isaac Albéniz, the Spanish composer from the late 19th century, wrote a four-volume piano solo containing his vision of what the entire Iberian Peninsula meant to him. Evocación, is a remembrance of his native country and his blessing upon the complete set. The lively El Puerto, inspired by the Spanish port town of Càdiz, is represented by the traditional Spanish dance, the zapateado.

Fête-dieu à Seville is an impressionistic, color-filled rendition of the Corpus Christi Day procession through Seville, complete with banners, flamenco guitars and marching bands. This music comes complete with fireworks, drama and the festivities only end in the earliest hours of the morning.
