STEPHENVILLE (January 20, 2016) — After 11 months as athletic director at Stephenville, Alan Haire is going home.

Haire was approved as head football coach at Salado in a vote of Salado ISD trustees Wednesday. He is from Salado and was an assistant coach there from 1994-2000.

“Alan Haire has accepted the head football coaching position at Salado ISD. His resignation will be effective as of February 8,” said Stephenville superintendent Matt Underwood in a prepared statement. “The District will name an interim [athletic director] near the end of next week and post the position prior to  spring break. We wish Coach Haire all the best in his new position and hope that he is successful returning to his alma mater.”

The athletic director and head football coaching positions are separate at Salado, just as they are at Stephenville. Haire was the first Stephenville AD that was not also head football coach.

Haire spent 13 seasons at Lago Vista and just two months as head football coach at Mabank before accepting the athletic director position at Stephenville last March. He was approved by Stephenville ISD trustees the same day Greg Winder was officially promoted to head football coach.
