Household is the first art exhibition for spring 2016 and continues through Feb. 12.

Hicks has a master’s in fine arts from Texas Christian University. She is an assistant professor of art at Stephen F. Austin University, and her work has been on exhibit at Redland Museum (Queensland, Australia), The Reading Room (Dallas) and Brooklyn (Brooklyn, NY). Her work is included in collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York City and Beineke Library at Yale University.

The current exhibition derives its title from Allen Kaprow’s seminal happeningHousehold. In his essay The Legacy of Jackson Pollock from 1958, Kaprow envisioned a “concrete art” made from everyday materials such as “paint, chairs, food, electric and neon lights, smoke, water, old socks, a dog, movies.” The artists in this exhibition produce work that exists in the wake of Kaprow’s thoughts and methods. Reference or use of commonplace materials is a common thread throughout while each artist explores a range of issues about language, form and meaning.
