HICO (January 25, 2016) — Though details are still coming out and the investigation is still ongoing, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department did confirm reports that Matthew Long was taken into custody Monday morning in Hico for murder.

According to various reports, Long had recently moved into a home on Star Street in Hico with his mother, Sharon. At some point overnight on Sunday or Monday morning, Long allegedly beat her to death with a metal t-post driver.

Hico Marshall Todd Ward also confirmed Long was arrested for murder.

“After the incident, Long went to a relative’s house which is also in Hico,” Ward said. “That relative called 9-1-1 and I responded to the residence where I took Long into custody and returned him to the scene.”

Ward said upon arrival at the residence on Star Street, he discovered the female victim and quickly realized she was deceased. He then contacted the Texas Rangers who sent an investigator to assist with the case.

“(Texas Rangers Investigator) Jason Bobo and I took Long to the sheriff’s office in Hamilton to question him before booking him into custody,” Ward said.

Long was taken into custody and booked into the Hamilton County Jail on charges of murder.

No further information is being released at this time as the investigation is still ongoing. The Flash will update this story as more information becomes available.
