LINGLEVILLE (January 26, 2016) — When Anita VanKranenburg and family were called from the home seating to the court at halftime of the boys basketball game, everyone knew something special was amiss.
The mother of Bart VanKranenburg was presented along with his brothers and other family, a shadowbox commemorating the 16-year old Lingleville junior, who passed away suddenly in December of 2014.
VanKranenburg was active in athletics, FFA and many extracurricular activities at Lingleville, and such is forever depicted in the shadowbox that will be permanently displayed at Lingleville High School.
All proceeds from the large silent auction, barbecue dinner, half court shots for prizes, and of course, the BVK35LoveAlways T-shirts and bracelets benefit the Bart VanKranenburg Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
The games were secondary Tuesday, though they were district contests. The Cardinals dominated the third quarter then cruised through the fourth for a 56-46 win over Gorman.
Another emotional outing lies ahead for Lingleville. The Cardinals host arch-rival Huckabay at 8 p.m. Friday following a girls contest at 6:30 p.m.
Lingleville and Huckabay typically meet just twice each season, but these Cardinals and Indians squared split two tournament meetings early in the year. They will play four times in the regular season, also meeting in Huckabay to conclude the regular season on February 16.
The girls clubs conclude their head-to-head district series Friday. Huckabay won the first meeting.
