STEPHENVILLE (January 27, 2016) — When Romond Jenkins threw down five first-half dunks he was just foreshadowing what was to come for No. 22 Tarleton State (15-4) in a 113-50 thrashing of Southwestern Adventist (3-21) at Wisdom Gym Wednesday.

Tarleton had five players reach double figures and ran away with a run of straight points in the second half, rolling to its biggest win since a 106-41 drubbing of Dallas Christian on November 26, 2014.

EJ Reed bounced back with 24 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots after fouling out without scoring at West Texas A&M Saturday. Charles Hill scored 17 points and is averaging more than 20 over the last four games. Xavier Smith matched a career high with 16 points and also collected nine boards, Michael Hardge scored 13 and dealt five assist and Jenkins finished with 12.

Several Texans combined for a 42-7 in points off the bench, which added to the domination created by a 50-24 rebounding margin and 72-14 gap in points in the paint. There was also the matter of 20-0 in points off turnovers as Tarleton gave the ball away just three times.

Sawyer Kipp and Chantz Chambers each scored seven with Chambers adding nine boards. Jakob Damstra had five points and nine boards and even Jacob “Chico” Morales recorded a couple tip-ins for four points.

The crushing 62-14 second half did not come until after Tarleton was sloppy for much of the first half. It was 38-29 with 2:50 remaining in the half, but Tarleton scored 13 of the last 20 to lead 51-36 at intermission.

Malcolm Hamilton did not play for the Texans. He was suspended in accordance with Lone Star Conference sportsmanship rules after picking up his third technical of the season at West Texas A&M Saturday. Hamilton will return to the lineup Saturday when Tarleton resumes LSC play against Texas A&M-Commerce. Tipoff is about 7 p.m. at Wisdom Gym, following a 5 p.m. women’s contest.
