STEPHENVILLE (February 13, 2016) — Every effort Texas A&M-Kingsville made to end its long losing streak was blocked Saturday night.
Literally. And usually by Breanna Fuller.
Fuller blocked a career-best six blocked shots, leading Tarleton to a season-best nine in a 61-53 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
It’s the fifth straight win for the TexAnns, the longest current win streak in the LSC and the longest for Tarleton in its two seasons under head coach Misti Wilson. The TexAnns won their 13th straight in the series with A&M-Kingsville and are now alone in
It’s also the 16th consecutive loss for A&M-Kingsville, which hasn’t won a Lone Star Conference game since March 1, 2014.
While Fuller was wrecking shop defensively, Bailey Wipff was doing the same offensively with 17 points. She hit two big threes to help Tarleton begin to separate from the Javelinas during the second quarter, then she hit a dagger from the arc that opened up a 48-31 lead early in the fourth.
A&M-Kingsville erased most of the big deficit down the stretch, getting within six points on two occasions. Fuller answered the first time and Wipff the second. Tarleton then went x-xx at the foul stripe over the final 80 seconds.
Fuller was also a force on the offensive side with 10 points, her third double-digit performance in four games. The senior forward has scored at least seven in nine of the last 12 contests.
Morgan Ashmore scored eight points and matched a career high with six rebounds and Ikpeaku Iwobi also scored eight for Tarleton before fouling out. A&M-Kingsville was led by Jamesha Wade and Kaylee Kana with 11 points each. Kaylin Roher added nine.
Tarleton owned the backboards all night, out-rebounding the Javelinas, 43-30. The TexAnns improved to 8-2 when collecting at least 40 rebounds.
