Dublin teams place second, Price named outstanding lifter

(February 15, 2016) — Three Dublin lifters won divisions as both the Lions and Lady Lions placed second in the team standings at the Ranger Invitational powerlifting meet Saturday.

Ely Escobar and Martha Riojas won their classes on the girls’ side. Escobar, in the 123-pound class, totaled 560 pounds. Riojas, in the 181 grouping, totaled 740.

Yessenia Rodriguez of Dublin was second in the 165s with a total of 545, Diana Caballero, third in the 114s at 440, Amber James third in the 132s at 6:25 and Valerie Garcia, fifth in the 148s at 480.

Heavyweight outstanding lifter Ethan Price carried the mantle for the Lions, totaling 1,320 pounds to dominate the 275-pound division. Dublin also picked up second place finishes from Cesar Galvan, Jacob Riley and Christian Vazquez. Galvan lifted 815 pounds in the 132s, Riley 1,155 pounds in the 165s and Vasquez 885 pounds in the 181s.

Bryen Healey joined Price in the 275s, placing fifth with a total of 905.

Dublin will be among the 20-plus schools competing in Stephenville this weekend. Lifting begins at 9 a.m. inside Gandy Gym.
