DUBLIN (February 2016) – Sy Felton of Dublin and Hannah Martin of Junction were awarded $10,000 scholarships at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo’s third annual youth rodeo.
Sy Felton rode Squeek to a $10,000 scholarship in the Tie-Down Roping with a time of 7.45 seconds and earning $277.10. Felton and Squeek are no strangers to success and are ranked fifth in the state of Texas in Calf Roping. This scholarship still means a lot to the winning youth.
Felton said, “It was one of the best feelings I have ever had.” While currently a student at Christian Academy of America in Dublin, Texas, Felton plans to attend Ranger Junior College.
Hannah Martin on Cobra, earned a time of 2.21 securing her first place, and a $10,000 scholarship in Breakaway Roping. Martin and Cobra have also been to Nationals and won the 16-19 girls breakaway for the Midland New Year’s Blowout. She thanked her parents for supporting her and Neal and Shaw Felton for helping her. Currently, she is attending Junction High School and still deciding between a few universities, including Sul Ross University and Tarleton State University.
The 2016 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s third annual Youth Rodeo kicked off Feb. 15 in the Expo Hall. The Youth Rodeo consists of seven different events with a total of $70,000 in scholarships offered.
Texas 4-H and FFA youth competed for a total of $20,000 in scholarships Tuesday in the Ribbon and Team Roping. These scholarships were awarded to the high money earner in the 16-18 year old division for each event. For information on the 2016 Show, visit www.sarodeo.com.
