Bees overpower Northside, Flores fans 11 in loss to Grandview

(February 20, 2016) — Stephenville scored early and often, cruising to a 9-1 win over Forth Worth Northside at the Johnson County Softball Invitational in Cleburne, where the Honeybees also lost, 4-1, to Grandview Friday.

Sophomore Morgan Diciccio stole home plate and another run scored on an error in the first inning against Northside. Jessica Howell unloaded an RBI double and a passed ball made it 4-0 in the second. Howell went on to finish 2-for-3 and scoring twice.

Nadine Arredondo belted the second Stephenville home run of the season – her first – for a 5-0 lead in the third, Sami Shaffer drove an RBI single to center field in the fourth and ?Gilder singled hard to the short stop for an RBI in the fifth, when two more runs off a passed ball and error made it 9-0.

Sophomore pitcher Julia Flores was in control of Northside the whole way, scattering a run, three hits and two walks while striking out five. She was a strikeout machine with 11 in the loss to Grandview. Only two Grandview runs were earned on seven hits and she did not issue a walk.

Emily Miller was 3-for-3 with a double and the only RBI against Grandview. Shaffer was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Stephenville is concluding its tournament action Saturday against Wichita Falls Rider. The Honeybees’ home opener is scheduled for Tuesday against Godley, but is subject to change due to basketball playoff plans. The Flash will have more information as it becomes available.
