RANGER, Texas – The Ranger College men’s basketball team didn’t need any last-minute heroics on Saturday in their final home game of the 2015-16 season. The only thing they may have needed was a calculator.

The Rangers picked up points from 15 different players and cruised to a stunning 153-78 victory over Texas International in a non-conference matchup in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

No, you didn’t read the score wrong. 153-78.

With the victory, 14th-ranked Ranger College improved to 25-4 for the season. The team has won a school-record 25 straight games. Overall, the Rangers are 29-0 on the court this season, however, they forfeited their first four games due to an administrative error in relation to transfer paperwork.

RC didn’t waste any time in taking the suspense out of the contest. Ranger College scored the game’s first six points and never looked back. By the time the first half came to an end, the Rangers had built a commanding 34-point lead, at 67-33.

If Texas International thought it couldn’t possibly get any worse in the second half, they thought wrong. Jordan Geist and Kris Clyburn both shredded the Texas International defense at will in the final 20 minutes and spearheaded a staggering 86-point outburst by the RC squad in the final frame.

Geist finished the game as the Rangers’ top scorer. The freshman guard turned in a phenomenal effort, shooting 50 percent from the field (10-for-20) and 70 percent from the free-throw line (14-for-20) en route to posting a season-high 35 points.

Tariiq Jones also starred for the RC men. He pumped in 25 points and also registered a team-leading six steals. Renard Thomas, who also finished in double figures with 11 points, also had six steals in the affair.

Clyburn, Bradoc Archibald and Gary Ringo also punched out double-digit performances offensively. Clyburn and Archibald both tallied 12, while Ringo added 11.

Also turning in an outstanding performance for the Rangers was Jonathan Perez. The sophomore guard came off the bench and finished with nine points, five steals and a game-high eight assists.

The Rangers’ 75-point margin of victory was the team’s second-largest this season, falling just two points shy of the 77-point mark they recorded in a 127-50 romp over the Metroplex Lightning on Jan. 25.

The Rangers, who clinched their third North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship since 2012 last week with an 85-83 win over Hill College, will close out conference play on Wednesday in Weatherford.

By virtue of winning the NTJCAC conference title, Ranger College will enter the upcoming Region V Basketball Championship Tournament in Brownwood on March 2 as the No. 1 seed from the NTJCAC. The top four teams from the NTJCAC and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference face off in the Region V tournament with the winner advancing to the national championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
