Stephenville – Graveside services with full military honors for Ruby Dale (Pemberton) Norcross-Carter, 97, retired Army nurse, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Harry Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Lacy Funeral Home.

Ms. Carter was born on November 4, 1918, to Carl and Golda (Lidia) Pemberton in Erath County, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephenville High School and received her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas. She served as an Army Nurse during World War II and subsequently worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco, Texas, until her retirement.

She spent many years residing in the Waco-China Spring area and later moved to Stephenville, Texas, to be near her son and other family members, and was residing at Oakwood Assisted Living at the time of her death. She had been a resident of Oakwood longer than any other resident, having resided there since 2002. She was a Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Golda Pemberton, her son; Carl Norcross, her sisters; Zona Beth Ray and Eloise Yeager and her brothers; Carl Pemberton Jr. (“Dabber:) and T.C. (“Tucker”) Pemberton, and both of her husbands; J.T. Norcross (the father of her only son) and Tom Carter.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law; Sharon Norcross-Fox and husband, Harold Fox of Stephenville, grandson; Kevin Norcross of Stephenville, and granddaughter; Kimberley Winfrey and husband, Bob Winfrey of Seminole, Texas, five great-grandchildren; Mindy Ensminger and husband, Chance, Jeffrey Norcross, Bryce Winfrey, Alec Winfrey, and Carlye Winfrey, and two great-great-grandchildren; Emily Ensminger and Caden Ensminger, four nephews, and one very special niece; Judith Ray. She is also survived by three stepchildren; Jeri Lutt, Debbie Smith, and Tom Carter Jr.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Legion or to the charity or your choice.
