Honeybees dominate softball pool play in Snyder

(March 11, 2016) — A Nadine Arredondo grand slam set Stephenville (12-6) in the right direction early on and the Honeybees rolled to three pool play victories at the Lady Tiger Invitational in Snyder Friday.

Stephenville, winner in nine of its last 10 games, earned the No. 1 seed in the Gold Bracket that will be played off Saturday in Snyder. They defeated Tahoka, 16-0, Fort Stockton, 4-2, and Plainview, 7-1, on Friday.

Arredondo’s grand slam was part of a five RBI game for the junior slugger, who was 3-for-4 from the plate against Tahoka. Jennie Winstead was 2-for-3 with a double, driving in three runs. Morgan Diciccio and Julia Flores each went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Jessica Howell had a 2-run double and Madison Gilder was 2-for-2 with a double against Fort Stockton. Diciccio led the way against Plainview, going 2-for-3 and driving in three runs. Areddondo drove in two runs.

Flores was in the circle all day for stephenville, firing 212 pitches while surrendering two earned runs – three total – on eight hits and a walk with 23 strikeouts.

Gold bracket action for Stephenville begins against Abilene Cooper at 11 a.m. Saturday at Western Texas College in Snyder.
