(March 11, 2016) — The only thing that has kept Stephenville baseball out of the win column this weekend is the rain.

The Yellow Jackets rode a triple, double, single and four RBI by third baseman Bradley Morrison and four shutout innings from freshman Derek Gifford to a 10-0 rout of Nocona Friday morning at Bowie High School.

Stephenville has won three straight in the weekend classic, also defeating Childress and Holderville, Oklahoma on Thursday in Bowie. The Yellow Jackets were scheduled to face district rival Graham in Henrietta Friday evening, but it was canceled due to rain.

Plans have been altered for Saturday due to weather. Stephenville visits Bowie at 11:15 a.m. and visits Henrietta at 4 p.m.

Gifford was efficient from the hill, needing only 39 pitches, 29 of them strikes. He allowed just one hit and didn’t issue a walk while striking out two.

On the other side, Nocona pitchers yielded six total hits but were let down by their surrounding defense, which committed six errors that led to eight unearned runs.

Not that Stephenville needed the assist the way Morrison was hitting the ball. The Jackets also picked up an RBI double from Caleb Gibbons.

Following the classic, Stephenville has its first home game of the season against Kennedale. First pitch is 7 p.m. Tuesday at James T. Young Baseball Field.
