Altered Tarleton baseball series begins Sunday

THE GAMES

After a weather-forced delay to the start of the series, Tarleton will return to the friendly confines of the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex for a four-game series with Eastern New Mexico Sunday and Monday. The series will consist of back-to-back doubleheaders beginning Sunday at 3 p.m. and wrapping up Monday at 1 p.m.

THE OPPONENT

Eastern New Mexico is off to a 7-11 start to the season, including four straight losses to Angelo State last weekend to open Lone Star Conference play. The Greyhounds enter the series having lost five consecutive games, over which they have surrendered double-digit runs in four of the last five. Daniel Ward, has started 17 games for the Greyhounds and leads the team with a .466 batting average and five home runs.

THE SERIES

Tarleton and Eastern New Mexico have a rich history with 101 previous meetings since Texan Baseball was reinstated in 1988 and the Texans own the all-time advantage 61-39-1. Over that span, Tarleton boasts a 33-16 mark in Stephenville and the Texans have won 11 of the last 14 games against the Greyhounds at the Cecil Ballow Complex.

LAST TIME OUT

Tarleton is coming off a series loss in Canyon last weekend to No. 15 West Texas A&M at Wilder Park. The Texans won the second game of the series behind a three-RBI performance from Zach McCown and six innings of mound work from Trevor Renfro, who improved to 3-0 on the season with the win over the Buffs.

GAME DAY PROMOTION

Tarleton Athletics is offering a special Spring Break discount with free admission into the games this weekend.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON

Tarleton will hit the road for back-to-back weekends of LSC action, beginning next weekend with a four-game series at Cameron. The Cameron series is currently set to a 1-2-1 format with the series opener set for 3 p.m. Friday.
