(March 25, 2016) — Nadine Arredondo belted a three-run bomb in the top of the seventh and Stephenville held off host Mineral Wells, 7-4, to join a tie atop the district softball standings Tuesday evening.

Stephenville (18-7) is tied with Abilene Wylie and hosts Wylie at 7 p.m. next Friday, April 1.

It was the team-leading sixth home run of the season for Arredondo, a junior playing third base. Madison Gilder doubled and Julia Flores walked to put two runners on for Arredondo, who also leads the club with 29 RBIs.

Stephenville took the lead for good when Jennie Winstead doubled in a run in the top of the sixth, and the blast by Arredondo made it 7-3 before Mineral Wells scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Pitcher Julia Flores sandwiched a strikeout and ground out around three singles that brought in a run in the bottom of the seventh. The sophomore then got a fielder’s choice groundout to end the game, in which she allowed three earned runs and seven hits while striking out four and walking two.

Gilder was 3-for-4 from the dish, where Miller and Winstead were each 2-of-3 for Stephenville. Gilder is second on the team with a .475 batting average.

Sami Shaffer drew a walk and scored the first run on a Miller double in the top of the second. Morgan Diciccio walked, moved to second on a bunt by Kali Smith and scored on a single by Gilder in the third. The lead grew to 3-0 when Winstead tripled and then scored on an error in the fourth.

Mineral Wells scored once in the bottom of the fourth and twice in the fifth to even the score entering the sixth.

The Honeybees have won 12 of their last 13, returning to the win column after having an 11-game win streak snapped in a non-district contest at Fort Worth Country Day.
