STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton suffered its second Lone Star Conference loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-1 to Midwestern State in Stephenville.
“Midwestern State deserved the victory today,” said head coach Lance Drake. “We had some opportunities out there today and just feel they played tougher than us at crucial times in the match. They are a solid team and we competed well.
“Against top-tier competition, you have to be able to embrace the pressure moments and play solid tennis,” he continued. “I am proud of our team and we did compete very well until the end, but that the end of the day, my hat’s off to Midwestern State as they performed better than us today.”
Tarleton’s Ashleigh Elward and Erika Richarme earned Tarleton’s only win of the afternoon with an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. With the win, the Tarleton duo improved their team-best doubles record to 14-3 and 2-0 against Lone Star Conference opponents.
The TexAnns dropped the No. 1 and No. 3 matches 4-8 and 1-8 before dropping all six singles matches.
Tarleton’s Richarme, Luiza Ferraro-Adas, and Elena Preadca did push the limits in their singles matches – as Richarme (7-6 [7-4]; 4-6; 10-5) and Ferraro-Adas (4-6, 7-6 [7-4], 10-5) lost their matches in super tiebreakers while Preadca fell 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 5 match.
