STEPHENVILLE (April 18, 2016) — Tarleton State holds a one stroke lead at the midway point of the Lone Star Conference Golf Championship.

Tarleton fired a round of 14-over par 298 Monday at La Paloma Golf Club in Amarillo, which is hosting the event due to excessive rains at the planned site in Frisco. Round two is Tuesday morning.

Following the round, Tarleton head coach Jerry Doyle was named coach of the year in the conference for an LSC record ninth time, Isabel Jimenez-Perea was named the league’s golfer of the year for the fourth straight time season and Casey Wild was named the top academic player in the conference.

West Texas A&M was the only other team to break 300, scoring 299. Midwestern State is seven strokes behind Tarleton at 306.

The TexAnns were led Friday by Casey Wild and Beatriz Prados, who each shot 74. But the real saving grace for Tarleton was Isabel Jimenez-Perea scoring even par over the final 12 holes after struggling to 3-over par during the first six.

West Texas A&M leaders Whitlee Woods shot even par 71 and Glory Jangthongsiri 2-over 73 to top the player leaderboard. Tarleton holds down the next four spots.

Behind Wild and Prados, who are tied for third, Jimenez-Perea and Sarah Gee are part of a four-way tie for fifth at 4-over 75. Kerbey Kipp is also in action for Tarleton, but her round of 12-over 83 did not count toward the team card.
