WECT, an NBC affiliate in Wilmington, NC, reported on its website this week that Ridell Camidge, a 6-3 guard, is transferring to Tarleton from UNC-Charlotte. The Charlotte Observer originally reported last week Camidge would be leaving Charlotte.

Camidge has two years of eligibility remaining. He scored 13.3 points while collecting 4.9 rebounds per game in his lone season at Cloud County Community College, transferring to Charlotte as a sophomore. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Camidge played in 28 games for charlotte, including 18 points on 6-for-7 shooting in a season opener against Elon. He scored 14 against Davidson, 10 in just 16 minutes against Appalachian State and 11 against The Citadel.

But his minutes decreased as the 2015-16 season went along, The Charlotte Observer reported, and Camidge finished averaging four points and two boards.

The guard was a star at New Hanover High School, averaging 18 points, seven boards and four assists per game as a senior. He was a two-time first-team all-conference and all-district selection.

Head coach Lonn Reisman said following his team’s second straight South Central Region Championship and Elite Eight appearance that guards were his staff’s primary recruiting focus, and they have landed two so far.

Camidge is the second member of the Tarleton recruiting class and the first transfer. Also coming to Tarleton is Brandon Willis, a prep guard from Baltimore.

Tarleton lost starting point guard Michael Hardge and Charles Hill, who started much of the season at shooting guard. Chantz Chambers, who returns next season, took over as the starting shooting guard in the playoffs and had three double-digit scoring performances. Backup point guard Deshawn Riddick will also be back.

The Texans red-shirted two guards in Lance Ewell of Brock and Kealon Clayborne of Cedar Hill, the No. 63 and 90 prospects in the state in 2015, according to TexasHoops.com.
