(May 18, 2016) — Tarleton State is seventh of 12 teams after the first of four rounds at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship.

Super Region IV and Lone Star Conference champ Tarleton was left trying to make up ground all day after struggling immensely over the opening four holes. The TexAnns started on the back-9 at Common Ground Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado, and had an official team score of 11-over through four holes, or the 13th.

Tarleton was just two over officially on the remaining 14 holes, and the round of senior leader and national No. 1 Isabel Jimenez-Perea summed up the day for the entire team. She bogeyed each of the first four holes before recording four birdies and 10 pars the rest of the way for an even-par 72. She is tied for sixth and had the best round for Tarleton.

With a score of 13-over-par 301, Tarleton is 11 strokes behind co-leaders Nova Southeastern and Rollins College, both from Florida. They are sitting at 2-over 290, while Dallas Baptist, who Tarleton defeated in regional competition, is third at +5. Augustana (SD) is +9, Findlay (Ohio) +11 and Indianapolis +12.

Behind Jimenez-Perea, Casey Wild, Beatriz Prados and Sarah Gee shot scores of 74, 77 and 78 to complete the Tarleton team card for round one. The 79 fired by Kerbey Kipp did not apply.

Wild recorded five bogeys and a single birdie on the back nine, which she played first, then birdied holes 1 and 3 with pars the rest of the way on the front nine. Prados had four bogeys and a birdie, but a double-bogey on the par-5 seventh was costly. Gee put a double-bogey on the par-4 13th behind a pair of bogeys on 11 and 12 to be four-over through four. She bogeyed three holes and recorded a birdie at the par-3 4th. Kipp had six bogeys, a double and just one birdie.

Mailen Domecq Chantry of Nova Southeastern is alone atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under 69. Marisa Toivonen of Augustana and Brinn Fariss of Dallas Baptist are each 2-under.

Behind Tarleton in the team standings, Grand Valley State (Mich.) is +14, Northeastern State (+16), Saint Leo (Fla.) +17, West Texas A&M +21 and Missouri Western State +39.
