Tarleton track has 18 athletes named all-region

STEPHENVILLE (May 19, 2016) – Tarleton Track & Field had 18 athletes named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) All-Region team.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

The USTFCCA announced on Wednesday that the Texans had 10 honorees and the TexAnns had eight, which left head coach Pat Ponder thrilled.

“These student-athletes are the backbone of our program and I’m very proud of each one on the list,” said Ponder.

On the men’s side, Chase Rathke was the lone athlete to be named All-Region for two events. Rathke was recognized for his performance in the 800-meter and 1500-meter in which the senior ranks first in the Lone Star Conference in both events. The Texans had All-Region selections in both hurdle events, with Dalton Stidham qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles and Randall Kadlacek in the 400-meter hurdles. Stidham and Kadlacek both rank second in the LSC this season in their events. Tarleton’s 4×400-meter relay team of Gilson Umunnakwe, Blake Eschbach, Cameron Krc, andClarencio Guerrero received the award from the USTFCCA after ranking second in the LSC this season.

Tarleton had third award winners in the field events with William Carlton being selected for pole vault, Chantz Chambers in the long jump and Rascellis Williams in the high jump. Carlton ranks second in the LSC this season, Chambers is fourth, and Williams is second.

On the women’s side, DeAijha Hicks-Boyce was named All-Region in a team-high four events. Hicks-Boyce was selected for the 100-meter and 200-meter dash as well as both relays. The sophomore ranks first in the LSC in the 100 and third in the 200, and established new school records this season in both events.

Joining Hicks-Boyce on the All-Region team from the 4×100-meter relay is Deylinn Garrett, Hollie Boyd, and Ariel Ballard. The 4×400-meter relay team of Hicks-Boyce, Ballard, Ashley Johnson, andJasmine Owens set a new school record and ranks first in the LSC this season to earn All-Region honors. Garrett was also named to the All-Region team in the 100-meter hurdles.

Aly Coughlin‘s top-ranked time in the LSC in the 5000-meter earned her spot on the All-Region list.Danyelle Dillard was the only TexAnn to be named All-Region in field events, as Dillard qualified in the shot put, with her throw ranking fourth in the LSC.

Tarleton will compete in its final meet of the season with 16 athletes selected to travel to Bradenton, Fla. for the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The event takes place on May 26-28 at IMG Academy.
