STEPHENVILLE (June 13, 2016) – Meals on Wheels of Erath County is gearing up to host its annual “Shoot Down Senior Hunger” raffle and fun shoot this Saturday at Rough Creek Lodge. The sporting clay fun shoot will begin with registration and breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and there will be flights at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Individual registration is $100 per person, which includes 100 clays, breakfast and a raffle ticket. A “second generation” option is available for $50. This could be a mother/daughter, father/son, etc. team.

Spots are still available. Registration can be completed online beforehand or the day of the fundraiser.

Money raised by this fundraiser will help provide meals for participants who do not qualify for other funding sources according to executive director Whitney Lee. This year, MOWOEC hopes to raise $30,000 from the fundraiser.

Every year a group of shooters gathers at Rough Creek Lodge to help Meals on Wheels of Erath County 'shoot out' hunger in our seniors. This year will be no different and MOW is now registering teams.

“As a matter of fact, [this fundraiser] provides about one-third of the meals we deliver over the course of a year,” Lee said.

In addition to the clay shoot, there will be a raffle at noon. This year, the three prizes are a youth model 20 gauge Mossberg and full-size 12 gauge Mossberg, a Windham Weaponry 308/7.65 rifle Leupold AR M1 1.5-4x20mm scope and a Smith & Wesson E Series 1911 (45 caliber) gun and a Springfield Compact 1911 (9mm caliber) gun.

Raffle tickets are $50 apiece or three for $100. The ticket holders do not have to be present to win.

New this year is the dinner and concert that will be held on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at The N at Hardway Ranch and will feature Courtney Patton, Mike McClure and Cody Canada. Tickets are sold out.

“This community is a great community,” Lee said. “We really come together for a lot of wonderful causes, and the folks we get to serve every day- these are the ones that helped build the community we currently enjoy. That’s why it’s important. We are all southern Texans. We are all very independent, and we want to help people stay in their homes for as long as they choose to do so.”
