One dead in accident on the Loop Wednesday

STEPHENVILLE (June 17, 2016) – According to the Stephenville Police, the driver of the Ford Mustang involved in the accident Wednesday on the South Loop, Jose Rodriguez, 24, is dead.

The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta has been identified as Maria Mata, (45 years old).  The Jetta was also occupied by a child passenger.  Ms. Mata and the child were not injured as a result of the accident.

The occupants of the Ford Mustang have been identified as: Jose Rodriguez (24 years old) and Manuel Rodriguez (20 years old). On June 16, Jose Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at JPS Hospital due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.  Manuel Rodriguez is still listed in critical condition and in ICU at JPS Hospital.  The accident is still under investigation.”

At approximately 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, the Stephenville Police Department and Stephenville Fire Department were dispatched to the 2300 Block of West South Loop for a major traffic accident.  A Black 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Mata attempted to make a left turn from South Dale onto the West South Loop.  A red 1997 Ford Mustang occupied by Jose and Manuel Rodriguez was traveling westbound in the 2300 Block of West South Loop.  The Mustang attempted an evasive maneuver, left the roadway, and struck a concrete culvert causing it to overturn.  Jose Rodriguez was ejected from the vehicle.  Both occupants of the Mustang were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth by air-ambulance.  The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
