(May 15, 1961 – June 22, 2016)

Stephenville—On June 22, Leslie Stanley-Stevens, 55, died quietly at home with her husband and twin sons at her side. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at First United Methodist Church of Stephenville, with Rev. Howard Martin officiating. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Leslie was a professor of sociology at Tarleton State University where she taught for 20 years. She received her PhD in sociology from The University of North Texas in Denton. She was a beloved and inspiring teacher and colleague, an accomplished researcher, and an internationally recognized scholar. Leslie was named a Regents Professor, the highest honor bestowed by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, in 2015.

Leslie was born in Dallas, Texas on May 15, 1961 to William Henry Stanley and Mary Smith, and married Christopher Stevens on December 28, 1985.

Leslie is survived by her husband, Christopher Stanley-Stevens, and sons, Parker and Forrest Stanley-Stevens; her brother, Bill Stanley of Universal City, Texas, and sister, Cathy Berger of Livingston, Texas; and other extended-family members. She is mourned by countless students, colleagues, and friends.

In lieu of flowers or gifts to other charities, the family would be honored by donations to the Dr. Leslie Stanley-Stevens and Dr. W.H. Stanley, Sr. Scholarship Fund:
