4th of July Celebration Parade

It’s a hometown tradition filled with the sights and sounds of American Pride. The city of Stephenville is once again gearing up for its annual 4th of July Celebration Parade, which will begin at 9 a.m. July 4.
Organizers have announced a parade entry deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday, June 30, stating that late entries will not be accepted. They also said each group or organization entering the parade will be limited to two vehicles.

The parade will begin at the south entrance of City Park, turn north onto Graham Street, turn west onto Washington Street and end at Harbin Drive and Washington.

A judging and announcing table will be set up near the downtown plaza, identifying participants. Jody Lee Caudle, owner and operator of local app-driven radio station Texas Homegrown Radio, will serve as announcer.

Awards will be given in several categories, including Best of Parade, Community Spirit, Cheer/Dance/Drill Team, Military, Most Spirited, Community Spirit, Best Decorated, Best in Band, Family Friendly and Announcers Choice.

Complete details, including the official entry form, guidelines and regulations can be found online here, but entry forms must be returned to the Rec Hall at Stephenville City Park by the June 30 deadline.

BBQ, Bands and Bottle Rockets on the Bosque

The area’s family-friendly July 4 festival, set for 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., offers fun for children of all ages. But organizer Amber Parks said festival goers are running out of time to receive a 50-percent discount on Bottle Rockets bracelets.

The bracelets are $5 through June 30 and available at Texas Homegrown Radio, Saddle Rags, Lone Star Ag Credit, Quality Printing and the Rec Hall at Stephenville City Park.
Bracelets will be $10 each on July 4.

The Bottle Rockets kids zone includes a variety of booths with fun things like water and sports-related inflatables, a rock climbing wall, snow cones, face painting and more.

The booths are manned by volunteers from local nonprofit organizations with each receiving a portion of the proceeds from bracelet sales.

Meanwhile, Parks said barbecue teams and volunteers are still needed for the events.

“Volunteers, sponsors and participants – they are all needed” Parks said.

Proceeds from the Independence Day festival are also awarded to a single spotlight charity.

“The $10,000 we were able to give to Backpack Buddies last year made a huge different for that organization,” Parks said. “We hope to make an even greater impact in 2016.”

The event also includes an ice cream freeze-off, live music throughout the day and vendors offering an array of gifts, goodies and foods.

Information on the upcoming festival is available on several platforms, according to Parks who said the festival committee requests that everyone share the information to help spread the word about BBQ, Bands, and Bottle Rockets on the Bosque.
