Yates wins rare all-around honor as local athletes cash in big during ‘Cowboy Christmas’

(July 5, 2016) — Local athletes cashed in big paydays during the famed “Cowboy Christmas” swing of the PRCA circuit, including Marty Yates winning a tie-down roping for the sixth straight week and capturing a rare all-around title.

Yates won the all-around at Kildeer Mountain Roundup Rodeo in Kildeer, North Dakota Sunday and Monday, taking top money in tie-down roping and placing as a heeler in the team roping with header Ryan Jarrett.

Yates roped and tied his calf in 7.9 seconds, and despite usually competing against Jarrett for tie-down cash, teamed up with his rival for a 5.4 in the team roping. They were eighth, adding $239 to the $2,483 Yates already won in the tie-down. He picked up an additional $2,721 for the all-around honors, leaving Kildeer with more than $5,400 in winnings.

Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira remained hot in team roping, as did Colby Lovell and Travis Graves and Stephenville heeler Wesley Thorp, who ropes with Zac Small. Luke Brown and Jake Long also recorded a big win, while Adam Rose and Walt Woodard dot various standings as well.
