(July 11, 2016) — There aren’t many names in roping history that rank up there with eight-time world champ Roy Cooper, and there aren’t many junior calf ropers that rank up there with Sy Felton.

Felton, a Stephenville cowboy, won the fastest calf honor in 7.9 seconds at the 32nd annual Roy Cooper World Championship Junior Calf Roping over the weekend, and was also second in the average at the prestigious event in Decatur.

Felton was fresh off a victory at the Best of the Best Timed Event Championships in New Mexico after competing at the Texas High School Finals immediately following an injury. Next up for the white hot prospect from the Cowboy Capital of the World is the International Youth Finals Rodeo in Shawnee, Oklahoma, which boasts itself as the richest youth rodeo in the world.
