ERATH COUNTY (July 14, 2016) – Mass shootings. Civil unrest. Brothers and sisters divided. America is troubled, and in times of turmoil, faith has the power to bring people together. The spirit of God has been known to shed light on times of darkness.
Following tragic events across the nation, including the mass shooting that left five Dallas police officers dead earlier this month, Ryan Hurt is sending out a message.
While attempts to reach Hurt directly were not immediately successful, it’s apparent through various Facebook posts that his focus is on healing, unity and increasing the power of lightness over the dark.
“I’m the pastor at Lingleville Baptist Church and have felt extremely led to have a time of worship and prayer over our community and nation,” he posted. “We as the body of Christ – no church affiliation – will circle up, unite together and pray for this nation believing 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our anthem.”
He hopes to reach all of the faithful people of Erath County, but will be content with reaching only a few.
“If it’s just me and my guitar then so be it, but feel like we need this time of prayer more than ever,” he said.
And history shows that awakening and enlightenment have started with just a few people praying for America.
“Remember the Second Great Awakening began when six people showed up on Fulton Street!” Hurt posted, referring to early 19th century spiritual renewal that began in 1857 as small prayer meetings on Fulton Street in New York City.
“I’m begging the Lord for revival! Let’s unite and seek the Lord to heal this nation,” Hurt added.
Prayer at the Stephenville courthouse community prayer event begins at 7 p.m. Friday on the lawn of the Erath County Courthouse.
