ODESSA (July 28, 2016) — Recruiting never stops in college football and it certainly hasn’t stopped at Tarleton State, where head coach Todd Whitten and staff are continuing to retool their roster with transfers, some from the Division I ranks.
Whitten is representing his program at Lone Star Conference Football Media Day at MGM Grande Fun Dome at the time of this writing Thursday. He will soon learn where his Texans are expected to finish in the LSC preseason poll.
One Division I transfer that immediately jumps out from the preseason roster released at the event bears a familiar name. Brice Gunter, a star on Stephenville’s 2012 3A Division I championship team, is leaving Texas State and returning home to play out his final two years of eligibility at Tarleton.
Another name that stands out is 6-7, 250-pound senior quarterback Garrett Simpson, who is transferring from UTEP, where Whitten was receivers coach until accepting the Tarleton job in December.
Watch for updates to this story as The Flash has time to discuss the roster in detail with Whitten immediately following the media festivities. Also, stick with The Flash for the unveiling of the LSC preseason poll, coming up soon.
