STEPHENVILLE (August 1, 2016) – The Harbin Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a barbecue fundraiser  and silent auction this Saturday at United Cooperative Services. The lunch will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the silent auction will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Included in the lunch will be brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans, bread and dessert. A live band will perform, and Air Evac will bring a helicopter. Currently two guns will be part of the silent auction.

“It’s going to be a great time,” auxiliary president Teresa Sanders said.

There is no cost to the lunch. Donations will be accepted.

Money raised will go to multiple needs in the Harbin VFD, including gas, uniforms and updating equipment. According to the IAFC Volunteer and Combination Officer’s Section website, a basic uniform can cost $9410, which does not include a flashlight, safety harness, radio, ax or training.

“That’s how we get our funding,” volunteer firefighter Joel Sanders said. “If we don’t get funding, we can’t fight fires. What we raise is what we live on.”

Donations for the silent auction are still being accepted by Sanders. Call 254-485-5091 for more information.
