STEPHENVILLE (August 3, 2016) — Tarleton State University announces parking and traffic advisories for summer 2016 commencement ceremonies set this Saturday, Aug. 6, on the Stephenville campus.
Tarleton guests are encouraged to use one of several parking lots near Wisdom Gym and plan ahead for possible detours and delays when exiting campus following the three scheduled graduation ceremonies.
With several ongoing construction and utility infrastructure projects continuing this weekend, guests should use caution while traveling through this area of campus and allow extra time to reach their destination.
All guests attending graduation ceremonies will enter Wisdom Gym through the south doors, where they’ll receive commencement programs and directions to restrooms and other facilities. Following each ceremony’s recessional, guests will be directed to promptly exit the gym based on seating location (upper or lower level) so crews can clean up before the next ceremony.
General parking for Tarleton summer commencement is available at no charge in one or more of the following parking areas:
• Lots P17 and P16 – Located immediately south and southeast of Wisdom Gym, are accessible from Sloan Street (via Harbin Drive from the west), Rome Avenue (via Frey Street from the north), and St. Peter Street (via Washington Street from the south). There will be additional handicap spaces in Lot P17 to better accommodate commencement guests. A portion of Lot P17 and West Tarleton Street currently are fenced off for construction, providing one point of entry from the south via St. Peter Street. Use caution when approaching the parking lot and navigating around the construction zone.
• Lot P30 – Located south of Wisdom Gym and adjacent to Dairy Queen, Lot P30 is accessible via St. Peter Street or Lillian Street after entering the campus from Washington Street (Bus. US 377).
• Lot P26 – Located north of Wisdom Gym and the Nursing Building, Lot P26 is accessible from Rome Street (via Frey Street from the north), and from Sloan and Rome streets (via Harbin Drive if entering from the west side of campus).
• Lot P20 – Accessible from and located along Harbin Drive and the west side of Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium, Lot P20 is located due west of Wisdom Gym, which can be reached by sidewalks along Sloan Street.
ADA parking is available in all lots listed above. The university will provide two golf cart shuttles during commencement to transport individuals needing assistance to and from Wisdom Gym. To ensure safety of all guests and to assist with traffic flow between each ceremony, drivers are discouraged from dropping off or picking up guests outside of Wisdom Gym and the designated ADA parking areas.
Tarleton anticipates awarding 469 undergraduate, 119 graduate and two doctorate degrees during the three ceremonies.
The colleges of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, Education, and Liberal & Fine Arts conduct graduation ceremonies at 10 a.m. Ceremonies for the colleges of Business Administration and Science & Technology take place at 1 p.m.
The third ceremony of the day includes all candidates receiving degrees from the College of Graduate Studies at 4 p.m.
