MONDAY

Vietnam Era vets get recognition

More than 100 Vietnam Era United States military veterans will be honored at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Paradigm building, located at 555 West Washington Street.

U.S. Congressman Roger Williams will present veterans with a commemorative lapel pin and certificate noting their service. The event is one of many scheduled to take place across the nation, during a 50-year commemoration of the Vietnam War, which started in 2012.

Some schools being new year

Students at Dublin ISD and school districts in Hico, Bluff Dale, Huckabay, Lingleville and Three-Way get back to the books.

Head Start re-opens to preschoolers

After the program was shuttered due to the loss of funding in late June, Head Start resumes classes for preschoolers.

TUESDAY

City of Stephenville holds public hearing

The public is invited to a public hearing to consider the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which includes proposed expenditures of more than $24 million and more than $100,000 tax funds from new property.

Stephenville, Morgan Mill students begin 2016-17

Stephenville ISD and Morgan Mill ISD students return to the halls of education with a short week, but Stephenville’s student athletes have a lot going on throughout the week.

Check out the Stephenville ISD calendar of events for a slew of activities keeping Honeybees and Yellow Jackets busy.

WEDNESDAY

United Way holds fish fry

A family friendly event promising a piping hot plate of fried catfish and all the fixings will be served 5-8 p.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, located at 1444 West Washington Street in Stephenville.

The annual community meal is a fundraiser for Erath County United Way, which provides funding for nonprofit organizations serving the community like Disabled American Veterans, Erath County Meals on Wheels, Back Buddies and more than a dozen others.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. They can be purchased in advance at Stephenville Chamber of Commerce, Citizens National Bank, First National Bank of Dublin, InterBank, TexasBank or First Financial Bank.

You can also buy your plate on the spot, and diners who don’t want to face the crowd carry out. and Drive-up service is also available.

Community members still convinced there’s nothing going on in Stephenville and Erath County, think again.
