FCA set for second annual Back to School Rally

STEPHENVILLE (August 30, 2016) — Cross Timbers Fellowship of Christian Athletes is kicking off the 2016-17 year with a night of worship and praise at Stephenville City Park.

All area youth and community members are invited out beginning at 7 p.m. at Birdsong Amphitheater.

“It’s going to be kind of a mini Fields of Faith to kick off FCA for the new year,” said Cross Timbers FCA Coordinator Carrie Normand. “All of the local youth groups are meeting there for fellowship and worship, but you don’t have to be part of a group to come out and enjoy the evening. It’s open to the community, and if you are just a student who wants to come out and worship with your peers, we encourage you to join us. It’s a big outreach event.”

Bands performing include 828, a Christian praise and worship band made up of local youth at Cornerstone, Chapel, a college-age Christian rock band out of Granbury and the Cornerstone adult praise and worship band.

Curt Plaxco, pastor at Church of Nazarene, will be the guest speaker.

“He will challenge students to live boldly and courageously at their schools,” said Normand. “And we will have student speakers who will offer the same type challenges in their own words. It’s a student-led night of worship.”

It’s the second annual “Back to School Rally.” Weather stepped into the way last year’s event, forcing it to move to First Baptist Church of Stephenville. If inclement weather becomes an issue again, the event could be moved to the Stephenville High School auditorium, pending approval by district officials.

“I’m pumped that all the youth groups are coming together and worshipping together. It shows unity in our community,” Normand said. “I’m just excited for all that FCA has going on at Henderson Junior High, the high school and all the schools in our area.

“We’re just striving to uphold the mission statement of FCA – ‘To impact the world for Jesus Christ to and through coaches and athletes’  – but also to include all students and youth groups, not just athletes and teams,” Normand added. “It will be a great family-friendly event, and I hope to see our youth and community come together and stand as one for Christ.”
