STEPHENVILLE (September 20, 2016) — Among team roping heelers, Wesley Thorp is currently 15th in the world and Logan Medlin is 16th.

After a year of traveling and grinding from rodeo to rodeo, the two Stephenville cowboys are separated by about $2,700. And if the regular season ended today, Thorp would be headed to the National Finals Rodeo, and Medlin would be left on the outside looking in.

The NFR bubble will burst next week, with some athletes receiving invitations to the NFR and others not. And as one of the final rodeos of the regular season, the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo in Stephenville this weekend will play a large role in shaping the field for the Super Bowl of the sport.

As cowboys vie for spots in the top 15 in the final regular season standings, the Stephenville rodeo is vying for its own spot in glory – it is again among the five events nominated for PRCA mid-size rodeo of the year, a title determined by a vote of PRCA-member athletes. Public performances at the local rodeo are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Lone Star Arena.
