Bees ‘burn wood’ in straight sets

STEPHENVILLE (September 30, 2016) — Hailey Martin served the final six points as part of a 7-0 run to close out the first set, and Stephenville rolled from there in a three-set 8-4A district win over Brownwood – 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 – at Gandy Gym Friday afternoon.

Taylor Garber fired the winning set to close out the first, and Stephenville jumped out to its second straight 8-2 lead to set the tempo in a dominant second set. The Honeybees grabbed a five-point lead early in the third and were never pressured.

Stephenville stays alone in second place in the district with the win. The Bees host Waxahachie Life at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Garber, a senior setter, had 16 assists, eight digs, four kills and two blocks in the win. Sophomore Chloe Goodman led in kills with eight and also served up four of the teams six aces while making five digs.

Nicona Stiwell landed six kills and had six blocks, Hannah Huckabee had seven assists and eight digs and Hailey Martin also made eight digs.
