STEPHENVILLE (October 11, 2016) – After about three hours of executive session discussions, Stephenville City Council appointed Jeremy Allen acting interim city administrator Tuesday night.
The decision followed a more than hour and a half interview session with Wayne McKethan, an external candidate and former Granbury city manager.
Mayor Kenny Weldon said the council had good discussion in an effort to make sure the right thing was being done for the city.
Weldon said the strategy, which was approved unanimously by the council, would provide continuity at city hall while the primary focus was on finding a permanent hire for the city administrator position.
The council voted to designate Allen acting interim to ensure someone was in charge “pending a review of a contract we (the city council) would need to enter into with McKethan.”
McKethan currently works as a consultant to municipalities, operating The Financial City Manager, LLC.
The council will hold another meeting on Tuesday (October 18) to discuss the contract, consider its approval and make the interim appointment.
McKethan’s name was brought into the discussion by council member Brady Pendleton following a similar meeting a week earlier in which Allen, Community Services Director, emerged as the lone finalist for the interim position. After learning of the possibility of other candidates, at least a few council members expressed interest in exploring every option, which led to the current decision.
Meanwhile, Strategic Government Resources has been employed to lead the search for a permanent replacement.
