STEPHENVILLE (October 21, 2016) — Tarleton State University will close Doc Blanchard Boulevard and revert access to several faculty/staff parking lots on Tuesday, Oct. 25, as part of the ongoing utility and infrastructure project along Vanderbilt Street.

Contractors will re-open the Neblett Avenue entry into campus at Vanderbilt Street adjacent to the Tarleton Smokestack now that construction has progressed west of the intersection. Traffic also will have access via Vanderbilt from both Ollie and McIlhaney streets.

Affected parking lots include P13, P14, P15 and P37. Employees assigned to these lots will now enter via Neblett or West Vanderbilt temporarily until construction is completed beyond the Doc Blanchard intersection, which is expected to re-open in mid-December.

Closing the intersection will create a dead-end at the Cain and Vanderbilt street intersection. Access to the university’s Control Center and residential student parking lot P23 will remain available via Cain Street.

Cards for entering faculty/staff lots will be reprogrammed automatically. Faculty and staff are not required to take any action and it is not necessary to contact the university Police & Parking office or Texan Card office.

The temporary street closures are part of a multi-phase, $25 million project to expand pedestrian walkways along Lillian, Vanderbilt and other campus core streets. At the same time, utility improvements will eliminate flooding and storm water drainage issues and enhance campus lighting.

Scheduled for completion in November 2017, the project will bring new beauty and aesthetics to the Tarleton campus, and improve safety for pedestrians within the campus core.
