Conley Jenkins, born November 16, 1924 at home in Amite, Louisiana, passed away surrounded by his family on October 29, 2016, in Stephenville.
The family welcomes family and friends to a visitation at Stephenville Funeral Home on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The memorial services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Stephenville First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. A private family burial is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the Jenkins family requests that you remember Conley through donations to the ALS Society or the charity of your choice.
Conley was educated at Mesquite High School and North Texas State University where he obtained Bachelor, Master, and Ed.D. degrees. He began his teaching career in Dallas public schools and spent 27 years on the Math faculty at Tarleton State University. While in the U. S. Army, Conley served during both WWII and Korea. As a Tech Sergeant he maintained the brand new technology of anti-aircraft radar. This stimulated a lifelong interest in radar, radios, and technology in general.
A passionate lifelong reader, he also enjoyed target shooting and rambling walks through Texas historical sites. He treasured coffee time with special friends Jim McSwain, Tim Flinn, John Whiting, Joe Cude, and members of the Tarleton Math faculty. Most of all he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Conley is preceded in death by his parents Conley and Bessie (Rushing) Jenkins; brother Edwin Jenkins and his wife Margie; brother Omer Jenkins; sisters-in-law Peggy Jenkins and Louise Yarbrough; brother-in-law Homer Yarbrough. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Myrna Jenkins (Yarbrough); daughters Derone Todd (Keith), Denae Lancaster (Jack), Delette Gazaway (Jim); grandsons Conley Ligon (Desiree), Anthony Ligon; Davey Steele (Cresenda); and great-granddaughter Auburn Steele. He is also survived by his brother Floyd Jenkins (Patti); sister DeLoryes Probst (Tommy); sisters in law Jonne Jenkins and Maudelle Yarbrough; many nephews and nieces; and brothers-of-the heart Tim Flinn and Jim McSwain.
The Jenkins family wishes to thank Visiting Angels, especially Angel Lauren Gillum; CCS Hospice, especially Rena Kohr, R. N., Stephens Home Health, Dr. Miranda Nash, and the staff at Good Tree Retirement Center. Your love and care made all the difference in these last difficult months.
