(November 23, 2016) — After a slow start in his first season as head coach at Dublin, Will Parker spent the off-season planning a different narrative for year two.

So far, so good.

The Lions dominated their regular season opener with Tolar Tuesday, 63-45, on the back of 39 combined points by Rayce Jackson and Brady Moore.

“After the season and even into the summer we really focused on getting them two playing together and making them realize that a lot of teams won’t have two guys to guard both of them effectively,” said Parker of his top two scorers. “They did a great job of getting into the paint and finding each other for easy buckets.”

Jackson scored 24 points and Moore 15 for the Lions, who Parker says look more comfortable in his uptempo system than they did during last season. He also says defense was really the key Tuesday.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well, but our defense and our press was good enough that we really didn’t have to,” Parker said. “We jumped out in the press and got ahead 21-10 and were able to play from ahead, which was nice.”

The Lions will be tested next Tuesday when they visit Stephenville about 8 p.m. at Gandy Gym.

“They beat Springtown and have faced some good competition,” Parker said of Stephenville. “We know it will be a good test and we’re looking forward to it.”
