STEPHENVILLE (November 29, 2016) — Stephenville stretched its unbeaten start to the season to five games Tuesday evening, beating their third opponent from 5A or 6A with a 52-32 thumping of Aledo at Gandy Gym.

The Honeybees, who are next in tournament play in Granbury Thursday through Staurday, jumped out to an 11-2 first quarter lead, never looking back following a Jayci Morton 3-pointer that made it 5-2 and touched off the 9-0 run to end the first quarter.

Morton had nine points by halftime and Tess Baker scored eight in the second quarter alone, helping Stephenville open up a 29-12 lead by halftime.

Aledo, shorthanded with freshman sensation Taylor Morgan relegated to the bench as she continues to recover from an ankle injury, had no answer for Stephenville’s pressure man-to-man defense, and when the Lady Cats weren’t turning the ball over they were forcing quick shots form the outside.

Stephenville has not allowed more than 42 points in a game this season and is surrendering an average of just 37.6 per game.

Aledo did show signs of life by scoring six straight points over four-plus minutes while stymying Stephenville during that stretch over the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters. The run cut it to 36-24, but Stephenville quickly responded with a 3-pointer by Ebony Green to make it 39-24, followed a few moments later by a Hailey Martin 3-ball for an 8-0 run and 44-24 margin.

Baker finished with 14 to lead all scorers and Morton ended with the same nine she had at the break. Green and Jordan Carter each scored eight, Martin five, Katie Roberson four and Liz Pack four.
