STEPHENVILLE (December 14, 2016) – The city of Stephenville was the scene of a drive-by shooting Wednesday morning. The incident occurred blocks – about two-tenths of a mile – from the police department.

“I am worried about the neighborhood now,” the resident of a nearby home told The Flash. “I always felt safe because of the proximity to the police station. Now I am seriously concerned.”

Sha King, spokesman for Stephenville Police Department, confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of north Race Avenue, near the Sloan Street intersection.

Investigators are calling the shooting an isolated incident, and King said investigating such crimes is a rarity for the department.

“This is very rare in the city of Stephenville,” King, who has been with the department for 22 years, recalled. “In fact, the last one I recall was more than five years ago, about eight or nine years.”

The suspect vehicle in Wednesday’s drive-by traveled west on Sloan, turned south onto Race, firing at and striking a residence. Nobody was injured.

An individual in the neighborhood reported the shooting.

A suspect had not been apprehended as of press time, and at the time of this report, police could not provide a description of the motor vehicle spotted leaving the scene.

King said he had not received a report from the crime scene technician and could not verify if physical evidence, such as bullet fragments or a shell casing, was collected at the scene.

Anyone with any information on the shooting should contact Detective Fincher at 254-918-1273 or Crime Stoppers at 254-965-CASH.
