STEPHENVILLE (December 15, 2016) — It’s not too early to mark your calendar for the annual ULTRA Club Big Band Scholarship Dance on the campus of Tarleton State University.

Themed “Fly Me to the Moon,” the 2017 dance is set for 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center Ballrooms. Volunteer musicians and Tarleton students will play traditional jazz and swing music, including arrangements from big band greats such as Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington.

The performance will be the last one for guests to watch Assistant Professor Greg Ball conduct the ULTRA Club Big Band. Ball plans to retire from Tarleton in May, after 27 years as director of the university’s jazz bands.

“I became involved with the ULTRA Club Big Band shortly after coming to Tarleton,” Ball said. “I’ve always been amazed at the dedication of the volunteers in this group. Several of them have been involved longer than I have, and turnover is rare. I will miss making music with this group.”

Tickets go on sale Jan. 23, in Room 105E of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center, and will be available at the door, beginning at 7:30 p.m. the night of the dance. Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for students. For more information, call 254-968-9639.

Proceeds from the ULTRA Club Big Band Dance support scholarships for Tarleton’s fine arts students. To learn more about the ULTRA Club, visit www.tarleton.edu/ultra.
