Tarleton tidbits: Texans among national leaders in several categories

STEPHENVILLE (December 21, 2016) — It’s a good time to be part of Tarleton State basketball.

The No. 15 Texans are fresh off a two-game sweep in Las Vegas, where they dominated Simon Fraser (BC), 88-63, and edged No. 12 Western Washington, 84-83, in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic.

Ridell Camidge was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Romond Jenkins LSC Defensive Player of the Week following the classic, which extended Tarleton’s win streak to eight games.

The Texans are off for Christmas and host Ouachita Bapitst on New Year’s Eve at Wisdom Gym.

Here are some tidbits showing where Tarleton ranks nationally in significant statistical categories:

-The Texans are fifth in field goal percentage defense at 37.4 percent.

-Tarleton is fifth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 62.6 points per game.

-The Texans are 14th in the nation in score margin at 17.3.

-TSU is 24th in rebound margin at 7.3.

-Tarleton ranks 32nd in offensive rebounds at 13.67 per game.

-Jenkins is sixth in the nation with 11.7 rebounds per game.

Also – Tarleton has scored 80 or more in four straight games. The school record for such a streak is seven from November 14 through December 5 of 2015.
